Sassan Sanei is an Iranian-born atheist living in Canada since 1977. He serves on the board of directors for Humanist Canada, a national education and human rights organization that promotes secular public policies. His goal is to help every Canadian live their life freely by their own values and beliefs, without being compelled to participate in religious rituals or restricted in their freedom by religious institutions to which they don’t even belong. As a licensed Humanist Officiant, he performs wedding ceremonies that are free of religious wording and legally recognized in accordance with humanist principles. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a BASc in electrical engineering and a BA in philosophy, he spent 16 years in engineering development, business architecture, and senior management roles at Research In Motion (BlackBerry), and is now conducting independent mathematical research in the field of large-number theory. He is the father of two children and three cats, a self-professed language nerd, motorcycle enthusiast, and amateur photographer.
